And then Came...The High Hats.

One of the good things I will remember about this summer is the great music I stambled upon. A whole bunch of new interesting bands and music, filled my "basket". One of the bands I came across was the swedish pop-punk band The High Hats. Thing is that I dont like giving stamps and genrerize bands about the music they're playing, and I believe this comes to the surface even more with the High Hats' new release, And then came Cancer.

The first taste of the album was a rather catchy teaser single Lou Reed (perhaps someone in the band is a fan of drugabusive Velvet Underground).  But to the point. Comparing to their two previous releases, And Then Came Cancer gives the right dose of feeling in each song. The whole album has an excellent equilibrium. We are talking about a 12 track long 2side release that has it all.. Do you want a true Saturday uplifting song that can go on repeat all night long? Listen to Television, or Heartbeaten by the Police..Or, neee just listen trough the A-side. ( Which BY THE WAY has my absolute autumn favourite song, Drillher Killher, boy that beat in combination with the vocals  scream desperation, addiction, melancholy. A bittersweet feeling...) Do you want to sack down into your loneliness and just embrasse the darkness of a true depression? Ryssby is something for you.
I can't say that this album has a true innovative sound, but it sure has something that new releases lack these days, sincereness and creativity.

I wanted to give you a taste, but it was tough to just pick one song. So, I picked Purple Hearts. (a song that reminds me pretty much of that 70s desert police movies..a little retro, a little desert in sepia, sexy men in Camaros and ladies with a bosson to kill for...)

Enjoy, Captain.

Snake Playlist 22/11

The last broadcast was all about new releases in 2012. This time, I figured, that it would be interesting with debuts instead. So, I went through a bunch of discography, searched among old and forgotten memories, and ended up with a rather non-indie setlist... Indiegrounds music, will  always be in the spotlight though, since its by my opinion one of the best online radiostations.

Oh! And I almost forgot, this broadcast had a little opening too! Dumb ways to Die, will now officially be the intro of Captain On Air.

Odd 15/11 Playlist

It was a rather challenging broadcast. I think I got punished for playin' alternative music.. (bad joke) For all of you who listened, you know what I mean. But, as in the hilarious picture below, it was an odd selection of various songs, stickin' out from what Captain on Air is usually about... That doesnt make it less funny though...
Anyway, the last broadcast was all about new releases...It just happened... By new I mean released in 2012.. Songs from albums such as the great Failed States by Propagandhi,  "gee it has been a while" Exister by Hot Water Music, the rather repetitive release Babel by Mumford and Sons, the nostalgic/ depressive/ honeycute Observator by The Raveonettes  and a new favourite And then Came Cancer by High Hats, hit our speakers.

Coming Clean.

Goodmorning everyone!

The days go by in chaotic Athens, yet remains everything pretty much the same. The crisis, the societal breakdown, the holistic corruption of the "conductive" system, a general distortion... One thing that is changing though, is my MP3/  Smartphone.. ( I feel a little wicked drawing a parallel like that! BUT I do hope you know what I mean)
Since I've received a lot of comments about my not- so consistent choices of genres and music in general during my broadcasts, I think that I must reveal a little secret about me. I am NOT so consequent myself when it comes to music. I can remember growing up and all the different kinds of music I was listening to.

AGE 5-12
Classical Music mostly. I got this great Vivaldi Album, The Four Seasons from my grandma on Christmas 95'. In between I mostly listened to Michael Jackson. I was so touched by his lyrics about the planet and saving the poor children in Africa. I was a true eco-lover as a child, so he was like a spokesman to me.. After that came old rock rock. My father was as we call them here in Greece a Rocker in young age (as I do believe that most of my friends' fathers were) and he had these collection CDs with Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and so on. This is where is discovered Nirvana. I was caught up by Nevermind. But, my friends listened to Ricky Martin, so it was embarassing to me...
AGE 13-15
As most of the teenagers in early stage, so did I lose my sences...You know when you just follow the flow, without reflecting so much about what you do..Yes, I was a SPICEGIRL. I was definitely Melanie C, or was it B who was the athletic one? In some strange weird way though, I managed to combine this with what we call here in Greece low bap. Bands like TXC, F.F.C, Active Member were streaming from my 90s CD player, or from my friends pickup... I don't think that I must go further on about this period of my life.
AGE 16-17
I found what was for me true Hip Hop...or rap. Wu Tang Clan, Nas, The Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill when it came to the "mainstream". Of course, without some of my friends I would have stayed to that..The underground scene seemed more sincere to me though..So just went on searching for swedish hip hop elements, in various online communities....
AGE 17.5-18
Then came reggae, dub, true ragga muffin'... Dreads, kinda ditched school, drunk alot and just had fun. Swedish reggae acts (yes I know it's ironic) had their place in my ears... Kultiration, Svenska Akademien, Kapten Röd, Skalman, and many others..
AGE 18- now...
I was fed up with the smoothness of reggae, and went off to punk rock...Thats when I discovered Against Me! and I do believe that this is were it all started.... I started going to music festivals and gigs way before that, but I think that this is the period were I actually felt I needed it. Seing Against Me! in 2006, was like a marker to me.. I will always remember that live. Not, because of the band, but because it was the first time I actually felt that I belonged...
Today I actually don't focus on the kind of music I listen to.. I prefer to focus on the quality, and on the way the music makes me feel. It can be a variety of genres, but if I have to chose one genre for let's say, a week, then it might be old classic rock.

Anyway, I  decided to wright up the Artists I've got on my playlist in my phone today.. uncensored.
Just to show you, what I am talking about.

The set might have been a little mixed for today, but at least it had a pretty nice flow. I must emphasize the fact that things are getting worse for each day here in Greece, and I've been pretty influenced by all this shit happening.
